Last week I began ADR recording on a movie that was shot about 2 1/2 years ago. This happens to be a great example of how ADR can be useful but also limited. Two of the actors were boys about 10 and 14 years old at the time. While we are able to re-record dialog for the 3 adult actors we've run in to a slight problem with the boys: puberty. They're voices are completely different now; it makes matching the sound of their voices pretty much impossible.
So, add "puberty" to the list of reasons to get it right on location.
